Talk 1: Reporting under control

Speaker: Petr Forman — Senior Data Engineer at Productboard

Description: Making just a minor change in reporting pipeline can not break anything! If you think that this is the truth, come and listen to the argument, of why it’s maybe not. Petr will shortly talk about how even minor changes can break critical dashboards. Most importantly, you’ll hear, how we at Productboard try to prevent our reports against errors or unwanted changes.

Talk 2: Analytics Engineering Toolchain at Slido: A Story in 3+ parts

Speaker: Marek Suppa — Head of Data at Slido

Description:

Since pissed-off analysts decided to take the future into their own hands, many ideas from software engineering have pollinated into what we’d now call the “analytics engineering toolchain”. In this quick talk, we’ll go over the things that worked well for us at Slido, things we were missing and built-in response, and things we are still missing and would like to build or improve upon in the future. Expect exposure to a lot of interesting tooling and a lot of strong opinions (weakly held).

Talk 3: dbt: Boosting DX with automated data sandbox and code generation based on the metadata and dependency graph

Speaker: Honza Řasa — Senior Data Engineer at Productboard

Description:

Honza will talk about the power of dbt’s macros and schema. He will show you how you can create an isolated (Snowflake) environment through dbt macro with all model dependencies and how you can combine schema and macros to generate LookML views for your models.

Talk 4: Analytics Engineering Practices at Slido: An Overview

Speaker: Michal Koláček — Analytics Lead at Slido

Description:

Software engineering teams have long explored, adopted, and improved upon key practices that help them deliver products of the highest quality. With the analytics teams finding great inspiration in the world of software engineering, we’ll take a closer look at how we at Slido utilize some of these principles and what impact they had on our work. Prepare for a rundown of our ever-evolving good analytics engineering habits and (quite) a bit of rationale behind them.
