You know that most prototypes are created to sell an idea to stakeholders, not to test an assumption with users. A prototype that tests a real hypothesis produces learning. A prototype that sells an idea produces confirmation bias.

"We believe that new account managers onboarding to our tool in their first week need to understand how their accounts compare to each other at a glance. We think a portfolio health grid (color-coded by risk level) will allow users to immediately identify their top 3 at-risk accounts without instruction because it maps to how they already think about their book of business. We'll know we're right if 4/5 test users can identify 3 at-risk accounts correctly within 60 seconds. We'll know we're wrong if fewer than 2/5 succeed or if users spend more than 3 minutes trying to understand the grid."
