How Relativity Uses Productboard


Disjointed Feedback Led to Disjointed Product Launches


Relativity previously used a combination of custom tools and third-party solutions that loosely connected product feedback and customer insights with backlog prioritization and roadmap management. This approach limited their ability to innovate and scale. As Matt Johlie, Head of Product Ops at Relativity, explains, “We had a lot of big ideas, but ultimately, just the way we had to customize and connect different systems... we couldn’t run fast enough, and we couldn’t innovate on our own internal platform the way we could with a tool like Productboard.


With an increasing need for agile and continuous product releases, Relativity required a more efficient way to coordinate internal teams during product launches.

While the product team was previously getting “a little bit” of product feedback from their customer support and customer success teams, Matt says that information sharing has increased exponentially.

According to Matt, Productboard became essential during Relativity’s multi-year transformation from quarterly releases to a CI/CD delivery model, helping them better collaborate across departments like marketing, documentation, and customer success. “It’s a good middle ground that allowed documentation support and all these different groups to really plug into the process in a way that worked for them—while keeping everything somewhat simple for the broader group of teams that were collaborating together.”

Productboard also strengthened Relativity’s ability to show customers how their feedback directly influenced product decisions. John Banta, VP of Product, explained that “when feedback is captured and reflected back into the product, it helps show customers that we understood their needs and built solutions around those opportunities.” This transparency and responsiveness have been well received by Relativity’s customers.
